Veronica's Fitting Room: five days to the wedding and a tailor who keeps the groom

The composition is the cleverest in the catalogue. We look down through the gap in a groom’s dark trousers to find Veronica kneeling in a white blouse, tape measure in hand, eyes raised. At the top right a younger woman peers through the curtain. In one image the poster tells you who is in charge, who is being fitted, and who is about to find out.

The waist has to be exact

She greets him by naming the shop, which is also the title, and he spends the first thirty seconds giving himself a stern internal talking-to. Five days out from the wedding, he should not be noticing anything. She notices him noticing and files it under occupational hazard. His phone rings: the venue is chaos, his mother is at war with the caterer, the fiancée needs him to sort it. He promises to call the caterer and hangs up looking ten years older.

Veronica is unmoved. Coat off, shirt off, the waist has to be precise. Is that necessary, he asks. Does he want to look good on the day, she replies. Then the question the whole series hangs on: is he sure he is ready for marriage, this young? Come back tomorrow, she says, alone, without the fiancée. The suit will be ready. So will a few other things.

Round two, with company in the corridor

He comes back. Of course he comes back. He has told the fiancée he is somewhere else, and Veronica asks whether he is finished lying to himself. The fitting is more thorough this time and the dialogue gets frank enough that I will summarise rather than quote. Then a voice from the corridor: the fiancée, looking for him. The door is locked, Veronica says, and she finds the timing delicious. The episode ends with the bride-to-be on one side of a door and her groom on the other.

Three locked episodes and a countdown

At 12 tokens each the remaining three episodes come to 36, or all five arrive with Premium. Candy’s brief is blunt about the arc: she has fitted every groom who walked in, and this is the one she has decided to keep. The five-day clock does the plotting for her. Veronica Parker is also the lead of three other series on the platform, so if the character clicks there is more where this came from.

Who should unlock it

Anyone who liked the idea of Room 742 but wanted the leads to talk. This is the brisk, articulate version of the same power dynamic, priced identically and photographed better. The only complaint is pace: the second episode spends its tension a little early.
