The husband’s double-take is the opening joke. The wife confirms it: her college best friend, staying for the week after a bad break-up. He can barely get the words out, so the wife does it for him, describing her husband as something of a fan. Riley takes it graciously, mentions she left the industry, and adds that she has been thinking about coming out of retirement. The wife leaves for work with a cheerful instruction to play nice. Riley notes that he works from home and suggests they keep each other company.

She asks about the marriage with no warm-up at all. He says it is private; she says the wife tells her everything, including the night the couple watched her old work together. He insists that was a one-off. She calls it a compliment, then observes that he has not been the same with his wife since. The pitch follows: best friends share, and she has years of experience doing exactly what he has only watched. The episode ends as she takes charge, and the open half of the series ends with it.

Fans who enjoy the meta-joke of a retired star playing a retired star. The dialogue is looser and funnier than in My Stepmom’s Weekend, and the husband is a good straight man. If the in-jokes do nothing for you, the same tokens buy two and a half of the house series.
